How to THRIVE, not just Survive with Emma Stanley

n this archive episode of Hey, Cis!, host Isaac Cook sits down with Emma Stanley to explore what real trans inclusion requires — not just visibility, but support, access, and the ability to thrive in everyday life.

Recorded in the lead-up to Trans Day of Visibility, this conversation looks at why representation matters, especially when it moves beyond crisis narratives and makes space for trans people to be seen living full, ordinary, successful lives. Emma shares how finding community can change a person’s confidence, ambitions, and sense of possibility.

Together, Isaac and Emma explore:

why visibility must go beyond dramatic or tragic narratives

why this podcast exists

Conversations that move you—and your culture—forward.

The conversations we hear about transgender people are often shaped by headlines, misinformation, and fear.

Simply Beyond exists to shift that narrative. Here, you’ll hear real people sharing real experiences — stories of resilience, identity, growth, and community.

You’ll also hear honest conversations that help leaders and allies better understand the role they can play in creating more inclusive spaces.

Because inclusion doesn’t begin with policy.

It begins with understanding.

Inclusive leadership in practice

Move beyond checklists and buzzwords. Hear how leaders at different levels navigate power, harm, accountability, and repair—without losing their humanity.

  • Making real-time decisions when values are on the line.
  • Creating psychological safety across identities.
  • Responding when you get it wrong—and making it right.

Centering trans & non-binary voices

Go beyond "awareness" to genuine understanding. Hear nuanced stories about transition, family, work, and joy from transgender and non-binary guests.

  • What respectful allyship looks like in daily interactions.
  • How policies and culture meet real human needs.
  • Supporting colleagues through transition and beyond.

Courageous conversations & transitions

Whether you’re changing roles, identities, or entire cultures, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Use these episodes as scaffolding for your next brave step.

  • Language that opens doors instead of shutting people down.
  • Reflective questions for 1:1s, mentorship, or self-coaching.
  • Ways to build rituals of belonging on your team.

For executives, people leaders & culture shapers

Questions you might be holding

This podcast is for anyone committed to building cultures of belonging—including those who are still finding their words and their way.

Is this podcast only for transgender and non-binary listeners?

No. Simply Beyond centers the voices and experiences of transgender and non-binary people, but it’s intentionally designed for a wide range of listeners: trans and non-binary folks, queer and questioning people, allies, HR and DEI leaders, executives, managers, and anyone curious about identity, courage, and belonging. You’re welcome here whether you share these identities or are learning about them.

I’m a leader who’s afraid of saying the wrong thing. Is this for me?

Yes. Many leaders move slowly—or not at all—because they’re afraid of causing harm. This podcast offers language, context, and reflection questions so you can move beyond fear into thoughtful action. We talk about missteps openly and offer concrete ways to repair, learn, and keep going.

Can I share episodes with my team or ERG?

Absolutely. Many listeners use episodes as conversation starters in team meetings, ERGs, and leadership offsites. The Conversation Guide for Inclusive Leaders you’ll receive when you join the list includes prompts you can pair with specific episodes to support deeper dialogue.

What happens after I request a "Clarity Call"?

After you book a clarity call, you’ll receive a confirmation email and a reminder ahead of our 45 minute virtual call. We’ll use this time to understand your context, clarify what support you’re seeking, and determine whether coaching, consulting, or facilitated conversations are the best fit—there’s no pressure to commit.

How often are new episodes released?

Episodes are released in thoughtful seasons rather than a constant weekly grind, so that each conversation has the time and care it deserves. Subscribing ensures you’ll be the first to know when a new episode or season drops.
